Music Culture in Jordan
First of all, it should be noted that the architectural and design
aspect is part of the cultural basis of any country in this vast world,
and the state is not built without it. Culture is a set of physical,
intellectual and emotional features that distinguish society from
others, and it includes: art and literature, lifestyle, basic human
rights, value systems, traditions and beliefs. These traits manifest
themselves at different levels of awareness, and their preservation
is the result of such awareness.
The architectural style in the interior of Jordanian houses has
changed over the centuries, as it is known that the Jordanian land
was inhabited by many civilizations. There is no doubt that each
civilization boasted a special architectural style that distinguished
it from the civilization that preceded it, but there were few permanent
things that had not changed in these civilizations such as environmental
factors and geology that produced building materials
for these houses and to which all these civilizations succumbed as
well as cultural and social aspects that played an outstanding role
in this area.
The concept of architectural formation in architecture and urban
design is closely related to the art of architecture, since figuration
combines these two concepts from the beginning of the design
process to its end, and for many centuries architecture has been
called Plastic art in addition to sculpture and painting, because the
central element of all this is visual beauty (Al-Daraysa et al, 2014)
However, in addition to the visual channel, the auditory (auditory)
perception channel also plays a significant role. Unfortunately,
the concept of acoustic beauty (similar to visible, visual beauty) is
used in architecture much less often. The purpose of this study was
an attempt to link the traditional architecture of Jordan with the
peculiarities of the acoustic structure of the dwelling, expressed
through the Jordanian traditions in music.
Two acoustic types of traditional Jordanian dwelling:
The landscape of Jordan is mainly formed by deserts and semi-deserts,
they account for about 90% of the country’s territory. The
ancestors of modern Jordanians, Bedouin nomads, still live in
small family enclaves in the desert areas of the country and retain
elements of the way of life of a thousand years ago.
